This PhD project investigates disinformation at the intersections of gender, visual communication, and political discourse. It studies how women politicians’ intersectional identities are targeted in false and misleading content. As generative AI tools are becoming more accessible and often materialize as deepfakes, disinformation campaigns’ visual and multimodal aspects pose new challenges for political representation and democratic discourse. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining political communication and media studies with a focus on gender and visual disinformation, this PhD project will examine the distinguishing features of gendered multimodal disinformation, its perception by audiences, and its impact on women in the political sphere targeted by it.
Methodologically, research in this project employs qualitative methods, incorporating a systematic literature review, multimodal discourse analysis, media diaries, focus groups, and in-depth interviews with women who have been targeted by disinformation campaigns. This comprehensive approach contributes to a better understanding of how disinformation campaigns target women in the political context, potentially discouraging them from pursuing public careers. This is a particular concern given that women are underrepresented in prominent political positions, holding head-of-state positions in only 23% of countries. When they do reach these positions of power, women politicians are often subject to backlash when they do not meet gender-stereotypical expectations.
You will be asked to
- Develop your own research project in consultation with the associated supervisors.
- Conduct independent and original academic research.
- Report results via peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and ultimately a PhD dissertation.
- Conduct a total of 0.4 FTE teaching spread over the second, third, and fourth years of your appointment.
- Complete the PhD in the specified timeframe, namely four years.
- Contribute to scientific and public engagement.

Qualifications
- A Research Master’s (ReMa) or Master’s degree with a research component (including thesis) in Media Studies or related areas such as Journalism Studies, Communications, or Political Science with high academic merit—an average grade of 8.0 or above on the Dutch scale (or international equivalent) is preferred.
- Demonstrable methodological and analytical skills and the capacity to develop and conduct innovative research.
- A clear and well-articulated motivation for pursuing PhD research.
- High level of spoken command of English and academic writing skills
- Knowledge of the language and culture of the proposed geographic area-of-focus for the case studies and willingness to pursue further language and cultural training if needed.
- A clear research interest in the topic of the project
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.

Movement buildingThe Department of Gender Studies addresses the major intellectual challenges posed by contemporary changes in gender relations around the globe and is the largest research and teaching unit of its kind in Europe. Academic staff come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, but we are united in our commitment to mapping and intervening in the gendered nature of social processes, and in our belief that an integrated interdisciplinary and global approach is needed to do so. In our research and teaching we combine theory and practice, with an interdisciplinary and transnational perspective.
We are looking to recruit an LSE Fellow to teach primarily on our MSc programme in Gender, Policy and Inequalities and to contribute to our core courses in gender theories and feminist epistemologies and methodologies. An LSE Fellow post presents an excellent starting point for an academic to gain teaching experience while developing their research career.
Candidates should have:
- A completed PhD at the time of application in social sciences, humanities or another area related to the teaching needs of the post.
- Excellent knowledge of interdisciplinary gender scholarship with expertise in any of the following areas: critical social policy, feminist demography, or feminist economics. In addition, knowledge of the following is essential:
- Anti-colonial, anti-imperial, and decolonial approaches to Gender Studies
- Black feminist and intersectional epistemologies and methodologies
- Transnational feminist theories and methodologies
- A developing research record in interdisciplinary gender studies with a substantive focus on areas such as demography, development, economics, government, politics, social policy, or sociology.

We are seeking a visionary leader to serve as our next Director, Solidarity for Change and Voice. The Director will spearhead partnerships with social movements, build strategic alliances, and shape the global discourse on SRHR. They will ensure that IPPF remains a fearless and authoritative voice for gender justice, LGBTQI+ rights, and access to safe abortion, while strengthening our Federation’s ability to counter disinformation and resist the rollback of fundamental freedoms.
Reporting to the Global Director of External Relations, the Director will set the conditions for IPPF to stand up and speak out. They will harness political intelligence, leverage storytelling and narratives, and work in deep solidarity with our Member Associations, activists, and allies to drive impact at every level - from grassroots mobilisation to international policymaking. They will also play a critical role in supporting human rights defenders, protecting activists from opposition attacks, and ensuring that IPPF continues to be a trusted and effective advocate for the people and communities we serve.

Responsibilities
The Co-Chairs ensure effective joint leadership, coordination, and accountability with each other, the Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Co-CEOs, and the rest of the Board. Some areas of responsibility are led by one Co-Chair while others are jointly managed. Both Co-Chairs contribute across all responsibilities as needed.
1. Lead Governance and Accountability (UK Co-Chair lead)
- Ensure the organisation upholds high governance standards in line with the Governance Code and complies with its governing document, charity law, company law, and other regulations.
- Work with the Treasurer to ensure timely and high-quality statutory reporting.
- Ensure the charity pursues its mission and applies its resources accordingly.
2. Board Management (Joint Responsibility)
- Ensure effective communication and coordination between Co-Chairs, officials, and the Board.
- Act as the principal point of contact for trustees and check in individually at least twice a year, including for their well-being.

Responsibilities
Final reporting (deadline 1 May 2026)
- Lead the drafting of the final narrative annual report, including an overview of targets versus actual results for 2021–2025

Project and Consortium Management

Person Specification
Essential Experience and Skills
- Practical working experience in all key aspects of project cycle management including closing high value, complex projects

- Strong familiarity with government funding mechanisms, policies, guidelines and restrictions

Movement building Sexual & reproductive rights (SRHR) HealthThe Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) is a feminist pan-African organisation focused on the strategic litigation of women’s human rights and sexual rights both at national levels and within the African human rights system. Our work is based on the belief that strategic litigation is an immensely powerful tool for social change because it helps to reframe the understanding of entitlements before the law and challenges the legal discourse. ISLA seeks to gain ground by creating domestic and regional jurisprudence in women’s human rights and sexual rights; strengthening the capacity of litigators and NGOs on the continent; and conducting rigorous research.Minimum ResponsibilitiesNetwork Development (40%)- Develop and publish a Strategy on Network Development in FWA;

Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa) is a consciously feminist and womn’s human rights pan-African Fund registered in Kenya and Zimbabwe. Operating as a virtual organisation, the Fund boasts of strategic presence in Africa’s five sub-regions- East Africa: Nairobi -Kenya, Kampala-Uganda, and Addis Ababa-Ethiopia; North Africa: Cairo-Egypt; West/ Central Africa: Yaoundé & Douala, Cameroon; Southern Africa: Harare -Zimbabwe, Lilongwe & Blantyre -Malawi, Antananarivo, Madagascar, Johannesburg, Pretoria & Cape Town-South Africa, and West Africa: Abuja -Nigeria and Parakou & Cotonou -Benin and Lomé, Togo. Position Overview
UAF-Africa is hosting the 3rd Feminist Republik Festival (3rd FRF), set to take place in Mombasa, Kenya, from 26-30 November 2025. With the bold and audacious theme of Regenerating in Crisis: Grounding Healing and Care in the Storm. The Festival aims bring together more than 600 activists from across the globe. The Fund seeks a vibrant and agile Feminist Republik Festival Logistics Consultant to provide adequate administrative and logistical support to the Fund’s upcoming Festival. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Operations, the incumbent will work closely with Finance and Operations, Human Resources, and Feminist Republik planning committees to ensure that the planning and preparation of the event are well coordinated and ensure the success of the Festival. The incumbent will work closely with external contractors, the events management company, and ensure that Festival participants have the information and support they need to travel, register, and be part of this flagship event.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
§ At least 7-10 years’ experience in an event or logistics coordinating role, or relevant experience, preferably in gender justice, women’s rights, or a non-profit/NGO setting.
§ Experience in developing effective logistics procedures and systems, building on best practices in event planning.
§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (other languages an added advantage).

Role of Board of Directors
The UAF-Africa Board of Directors comprises leaders from feminist and womn’s rights movements in Africa who are dedicated to the organisation’s mission from a place of power and clarity of vision. Serving on the UAF-Africa Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for womn who are passionate about strengthening leadership and governance in feminist and womn’s rights organisations in Africa.
Board members will participate in two face-to-face board meetings per year, read board materials in advance of meetings, and come prepared to ask questions and participate in governance, strategic and generative discussions, and debates. They will also be asked to serve on one or more committees and actively participate in committee work. Board terms last three years, and board members can serve up to two consecutive terms. The monthly time required would be 8-10 hours.

Position Overview

We work with a broad range of organizations, researchers, and advocates to drive change.In 2022, Together for Girls launched and continues to host the Brave Movement (“Brave”), a global advocacy movement of survivors and allies working to end childhood sexual violence.Position OverviewThe Deputy Director of Movement-Building will lead efforts to deepen and strengthen Brave’s membership and supporter network, launch and support Brave Platforms, engage partner organizations, and ensure Brave is well-positioned to take effective action. You will develop strategies to grow the membership, boost organizational capacity; train, connect, and empower survivor-advocates; and drive systemic change.This role serves as the focal point for Brave’s approach to safe, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered advocacy. You will serve as the liaison for the Survivor Advocates Globally Empowered (“SAGE”) survivor advisory council that oversees Brave’s governance and priority-setting. You will lead efforts to develop safety and well-being policies, procedures, and practices throughout the movement.This role requires strong project management and interpersonal skills to represent the Brave Movement to a diverse, global network of organizations and advocates. The role will also play a pivotal role in efforts to secure sustainable resources for the movement.This position will report to the Senior Director of Global Campaigns and will manage the Global Membership Coordinator.Knowledge, Skills and Experience:- At least 8 years of experience in movement building, grassroots organizing, advocacy, or related fields.
- Proven track record of mobilizing diverse communities, coalition building, and fostering partnerships across sectors, including grassroots organizations, policymakers, funders, and international stakeholders.
- Commitment to the values and mission of Together for Girls and the Brave Movement.
- Demonstrated experience in program management, including designing and implementing successful movement-building initiatives.
- Ability to prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously, proactively, and to successful completion.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficient in Google Workspace (e.g. Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides), project management software (e.g. Airtable, Monday.com), and Slack.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including survivors.
- High emotional intelligence, with the ability to understand and navigate the emotions of team members and movement members effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate uncertainty and challenges with composure and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with remote-first, asynchronous work.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices.
- Experience working in globally distributed or multicultural teams.
- Passion for addressing sexual violence, gender-based violence, and/or violence against children.
