Background and purpose
The Global Menstrual Collective (GMC) is a global advocacy network dedicated to advancing menstrual health and hygiene as a matter of rights, dignity, and development. WaterAid is a founding member and host of the GMC.
Over the past year, the GMC, in collaboration with partners, has co-produced a Political Economy Analysis (PEA) and is co-creating a Shared Agenda for Action on menstrual health and hygiene. Together these will articulate a compelling, evidence-informed
vision and framework for systemic change in menstrual health globally.
In light of these developments, the GMC is seeking an experienced strategic consultant to lead the facilitation and development of the GMC’s Strategic Action Plan. WaterAid, as GMC’s host, is recruiting the consultant in collaboration with the GMC’s Core Group.
The consultant will serve as a trusted thought partner to the GMC and serve as a skilled facilitator for the GMC's diverse network of members and partners. They will bring substantive expertise in strategy development (through multi-stakeholder input into a
rigorous and actionable strategy document), with experience in working with development sector networks.
GMC is seeking a consultant that will use their expertise to both synthesize inputs from stakeholders and incorporate independent critical insights into the process and the recommendations in the project deliverables.
Expertise Required
The consultant or consulting team should possess the following qualifications and expertise:
● Demonstrated experience in strategic planning for civil society networks, advocacy coalitions, or global health or rights-based initiatives
● Strong facilitation skills, with experience designing and leading multistakeholder convenings, including across geographies and time zones
● Familiarity with political economy analysis frameworks and their application to advocacy strategy
● Knowledge of the menstrual health and hygiene sector, and/or related fields such as WASH, sexual and reproductive health and rights, or gender equality, is an advantage
● Proven ability to synthesize complex, multi-source inputs into clear, accessible strategy documents
● Demonstrated capacity and willingness to provide independent, critical perspectives on organizational strategy — including the ability to raise difficult questions, challenge assumptions, and make frank recommendations that go beyond validating existing plans
● Experience working with or advising international NGOs, funding bodies, or advocacy networks
● Excellent written and spoken English
