Consultant services for a comprehensive review on the medicalisation of FGM in Francophone West and Central Africa
FIGO is seeking the services of a French speaking consultant, or team of consultants, to conduct a comprehensive review on the medicalisation of FGM in Francophone West and Central Africa, and primary research on current knowledge, attitudes and practice of FGM in OBGYNs and opportunities for OBGYN societies in Francophone West Africa.
Scope of work
The consultant(s) will be responsible for conducting the evaluation, ensuring all objectives are fully met including delivery of accessible report(s) with the key findings from across the whole programme. The consultant(s) will be responsible for all aspects of the study, including protocol development, designing data collection tools, obtaining ethical approvals (where required), recruiting and training data collectors / consultants as necessary, managing data collection, managing travel logistics and costs, data entry/cleaning/transcription/translation, data analysis, organising and implementing validation processes, report writing (in French or English), and PowerPoint preparation. The consultant(s) will work closely with the FIGO programmes staff to finalise the research questions and support the data collection, including identifying stakeholders for data collection. The countries, have been provisionally selected based on our current understanding of FGM prevalence and country legal and policy context, and the donor’s priority countries. We are open to suggestions to include and/or exclude certain countries given appropriate reasoning
Essential
• High proficiency in written and spoken French
• The Lead Consultant should have at least 8 years professional experience in the research of multi-country global health, public health and/or international development projects or programmes
• Expertise in public health, sexual and reproductive health and/or maternal, newborn and child health, including working with national, regional and local health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
• In depth knowledge and experience in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Proven experience in designing research, methodologies and tools for data collection and analyses
• Similar work in the last three years (provide a sample copy of recent reports), with demonstrable experience conducting qualitative research, managing ethical approval processes, mobilising and contracting data collectors with strong qualitative research skills in the countries (or equivalents).
• A demonstrated high professionalism and ability to work independently and in high-pressure situations under tight deadlines
• Strong collaborative ways of working and strong facilitation skills
