Consultant services for the evaluation of the Fistula Surgery Training Initiative
The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is the world’s largest alliance of national obstetricians and gynaecologists (obgyn) associations, uniting women’s health professionals in more than 140 countries. FIGO is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women and girls worldwide by harnessing our collective expertise to close critical gaps in healthcare, strengthening health systems and expanding access to lifesaving medical services.
Scope of work
The consultant(s) will be responsible for conducting the evaluation, ensuring all objectives are fully met including delivery of an accessible evaluation report(s) with the key findings from across the whole programme.
The consultant(s) will be responsible for all aspects of the study, including protocol development, designing data collection tools, obtaining ethical approvals (where required), recruiting and training data collectors / consultants as necessary, managing data collection, managing travel logistics and costs, data entry/cleaning/transcription/translation, data analysis, organising and implementing validation processes, report writing, report design for external use and PowerPoint preparation.
The consultant(s) will work closely with the FIGO FSTI staff and implementing partners, who will support with data collection, including identifying stakeholders for data collection. FIGO have also set up a technical reference group (TRG) for the evaluation which includes 4 key subject matter experts (obstetric fistula surgeons and trainers) with strong ties to the programme. Their role is to review key documents (i.e. inception report, data collection tools), alongside FIGO FSTI staff, and provide feedback.
The consultant(s) must meet the following criteria and qualifications, which will be assessed using a scoring method during the selection process.
Essential
• The Team Leader should have at least 10 years professional experience in the evaluation of multi-country global health or international development projects or programmes
• Expertise in public health, sexual and reproductive health and/or maternal, newborn and child health, including working with national, regional and local health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
• Proven experience in designing research and evaluation frameworks and methodologies and tools for data collection and analyses
• Similar work in the last three years (provide a sample copy of recent reports), with demonstrable experience conducting qualitative research, managing ethical approval processes, mobilising and contracting data collectors with strong qualitative research/evaluation skills in the countries (or a selection of) and organising successful validation workshops
• A demonstrated high professionalism and ability to work independently and in high-pressure situations under tight deadlines
• High proficiency in written and spoken English and French
• Strong collaborative ways of working and strong facilitation skills Desirable
• In depth knowledge of obstetric fistula and/or experience evaluating related projects
• In depth knowledge and experience in the Sub-Saharan Africa, including relevant countries
• High proficiency in written and spoken Portuguese
• Diverse team, combining international and national expertise
