About this internship
This internship is designed as a learning experience in nonprofit communications and content creation. The Social Media Intern will receive training and close supervision in content creation, basic graphic design, and social media strategy in the context of gender, climate, and environmental justice.

Responsibilities
Under supervision, the Social Media Intern may:
  • Draft caption options and short-form educational posts based on WEJ’s mission, existing research topics, and public education themes.
  • Create or adapt simple graphics (e.g., quote cards, statistics slides, explainer posts) using Canva or similar design tools.
  • Assist with organizing an editorial calendar, including brainstorming post ideas and mapping content to key dates (e.g., Earth Day, International Women’s Day).
  • Research how comparable nonprofits communicate about gender, climate, and environmental justice issues, and summarize examples for the team.
  • Observe how basic analytics (reach, engagement, etc.) are used to refine educational strategies, without being responsible for performance targets.
  • Participate in weekly check-ins with a WEJ supervisor to review draft content, receive feedback, and reflect on progress.

All work will be reviewed by WEJ leadership before publication. The intern will not be responsible for independently managing WEJ’s social media accounts.

Qualifications
Required:
- Current enrollment in a college, university, or other accredited educational program.
- Ability to earn academic credit or otherwise tie the internship to a formal school-sponsored educational requirement (e.g., practicum, internship course, capstone).
- Demonstrated interest in at least one of the following: gender equity, environmental justice, climate policy, social movements, or nonprofit communications.
- English proficiency, including writing skills and comfort drafting short-form text.
- Willingness to learn new tools, receive feedback, and revise work.
- Reliable internet access and ability to attend virtual meetings.

Preferred but not required:
- Prior experience creating content on social platforms (personal, campus, or organizational).
- Familiarity with Canva or similar design software.
