Gender equality and Social inclusion (GESI) Generic (e.g. 'gender focal point' role
 Introduction
Women’s rights and gender equality are both fundamental to RFN’s rights-based approach and essential for sustainable rainforest protection outcomes. RFN has identified a need to clarify and advance our strategic gender approach, focus areas, ambition levels and added value. The NICFI gender review (2024) highlighted a need for a more unified vision for incorporating women's rights. RFN has committed to defining clearer gender focus areas to ensure relevance within strategic work areas, integration in theories of change, strategic frameworks etc.

 Objectives
Provide a gender knowledge base consolidating internal and external perspectives, to guide strategy discussions and decisions regarding gender:
a) Review and synthesise existing internal and external evidence for gender integration and its effects, across strategic areas of interests for RFN.
b) Map need, potential, added-value and evidence (incl. cost effectiveness) to strengthen gender integration in RFN strategic work areas and rights-based rainforest protection, from internal and external perspectives.
c) Provide an external outlook on donor trends, sector experiences, and evidence relevant to gender and rights-based rainforest management.
d) Identify lessons learned, good practices and success factors from RFN and partners and external stakeholders.
e) Frame and prepare strategy discussions, e.g. recommendations or options for gender approach and priorities. f) Strengthen gender understanding and learning in RFN through knowledge exchange and analysis, and strategy discussions. The work includes both internal analysis and external scoping as detailed below. Approaches both to “do some good” (affect positive change) and “do no harm” (mitigate negative effects) should be considered.

 Qualifications
• Extensive experience and expertise in women’s right and gender equality in international development, including sector trends, donor policies, research etc.
• Knowledge of gender in the environmental sector, preferably within rights-based rainforest protection.
• Experience with NGOs and civil society, and good understanding of partnerships. Experience with environmental organisations an asset.
• Strong qualitative research, analysis and strategic thinking skills, including evidence review and stakeholder consultations/interviews.
• Excellent English communication and writing skills with a proven track record of delivering high‑quality within agreed timelines.
• Regional understanding of RFN’s priority regions (Amazon, Congo Basin, Southeast Asia, or Oceania) and Portuguese, Spanish, French or Indonesian skills an asset.
