Generic (e.g. 'gender focal point' role
The Global Center for Gender Equality is seeking qualified mid- to senior-level consultants to provide technical and strategic gender expertise at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and international development. This work is supported by a leading global foundation working to broaden access to AI, health, financial, and agricultural advisory services for people living in lowand middle-income countries (LMICs). This foundation partners with companies, NGOs, universities, and others seeking to promote inclusive AI design and delivery to ensure systems benefit women and men across target geographies in Africa and Asia. Consultants will provide technical and programmatic advice to support improvements in the design and implementation of grants funding AI initiatives, as well as support research and broader strategy development around AI and gender integration.
Areas of focus may include:
• Design and development of AI-enabled systems and tools. Ensuring women and marginalized groups are active participants in user research, system design, model development, and testing, and that AI initiatives respond to differentiated needs, preferences, and constraints.
• Deployment and delivery of AI-enabled services. Support the equitable rollout of AIdriven initiatives and advisory platforms, and ensuring they are accessible, relevant, and usable for women and men in LMICs.
• Supporting the integration of ethical AI principles—including fairness, transparency, and accountability—into programming in LMICs.
We are seeking consultants from complementary backgrounds and we welcome applications from candidates with deep expertise in AI systems design, development, or governance, combined with either of the following:
1. Gender and inclusion integration expertise: experience integrating gender and other equity considerations into development programming, including grant design and review, conducting gender analyses, portfolio-level analysis, MEL and indicator development, strategy development, and synthesis of complex technical topics for executive or nontechnical audiences.
2. Sectoral expertise: deep programmatic expertise in one or more development fields, including health R&D, immunization, neglected tropical diseases, digital financial inclusion, agricultural extension and/or digital agricultural advisory platforms. The ideal candidate will have expertise across AI, gender, and at least one of the sectors listed, but we will seriously consider applications that touch on any of those areas
