Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Generic (e.g. 'gender focal point' role
Inclusion Economics India Center (IEIC), in collaboration with Yale Inclusion Economics (YIE), has just launched the Women in Leadership in Economics (WiL) initiative, an ambitious, collaborative effort to generate systems change to advance Indian women's leadership in economics and policy. A key component of this initiative is to support the career progression and success of female economists and economics students by improving access to relevant information and strengthening institutional access to mentorship and professional networks. We are partnering with a set of Indian institutions, encompassing universities and professional organisations, to reshape institutional norms and structures to promote women’s advancement in the economics profession, and create leadership opportunities that will better enable women to contribute to evidence-based economic policy in India.

The team is hiring a Director of Strategic Initiatives to lead WiL. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about economics research as a lever for policy impact, and about overcoming barriers that keep women from effectively contributing to that effort.  The Director will lead a team across IEIC and YIE to deliver on the goals of the program.

Responsibilities

WiL Program Design and Delivery:
  • Establish a multi-year work plan to achieve the initiative’s goals.
  • Serve as the lead on institutional partnerships, and academic & professional body stakeholder relationships to deliver on the objectives of the initiative.
  • Own, refine and implement the work plan that enables accomplishment of the initiative’s strategic aims.
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy to inform and drive progress on the WiL initiative.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the learning, measurement and evaluation (LME) strategy for the WiL initiative.

WIL HR:
  • Hire, manage, and mentor a team drawn from current as well as newly hired staff, to support initiative and related activities.

Financial Responsibilities:
  • Engage in strategic budget management - work collaboratively with the ED and Associate Director of Finance (ADF), and Yale Inclusion Economics leadership on long-term financial planning, financial decision-making around resource allocation and prioritization, and risk management.

Other Strategic and Policy Initiatives:
  • Develop strategic relationships with policymakers of all levels of the government, and other mission-aligned individuals and institutions relevant to our policy-engaged research agenda.
  • Work with policymakers through technical advising and capacity building to encourage the use of rigorous, evidence-based decision-making in their departments, institutionalizing practices to make policy engagements effective.
  • Identify and support new policy-research opportunities for IEIC and Yale Inclusion Economics (YIE) that align with our portfolios, as well as identify opportunities to build on successful studies to inform policies at scale.
  • Assemble, oversee, and mentor a team of policy-focused staff to support our research priorities across India.
  • Represent our research and policy engagements in a variety of written and in-person forums to engage effectively in the research-to-policy space and communicate effectively about our work to stakeholders.
