Gender equality and Social inclusion (GESI)

UNDP is the UN’s global development network, working in more than 170 countries to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and build resilience. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are central to UNDP’s mandate and to the achievement of its Strategic Plan. The Gender Team, part of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), provides policy advice and technical support to advance gender equality across UNDP’s portfolio. The Team leads flagship initiatives including the Gender Equality Seal for Development and the Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions, and supports countries to strengthen gender integration, institutional transformation, and policy innovation. Interns will support implementation of the Gender Team’s Global Programme by engaging in research, coordination, data analysis, knowledge management and communications. Interns will be assigned to one of several workstreams depending on skills and interest.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of a designated Programme Specialist, the intern will support programme implementation, reporting, coordination, and knowledge management.
1. Programme Implementation and Coordination
- Support implementation of gender-related global programmes, including planning and monitoring activities.
- Coordinate with UNDP Country Offices and provide support for global programme delivery.
- Assist in organizing meetings, webinars, workshops, and virtual meetings.
2. Knowledge Management and Research
- Research, compile, and synthesize information, data, and tools from diverse sources to support programmatic and policy work.
- Support knowledge management by organizing, summarizing, and maintaining resources for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in developing knowledge products and tools for gender integration in public administration.
3. Communications and Outreach
- Communicate clearly and diplomatically in written and verbal communication.
- Draft blog content, storytelling pieces, visual materials, and support newsletter preparation using Mailchimp.
- Plan and manage social media communications.
4. Organizational and Coordination Support
- Support front-office functions, coordination processes, and meeting follow-up.
- Assist with planning, delivery, and follow-up of internal and external events.
- Strengthen coordination mechanisms and information flows across teams.

Required Skills and Experience
- Enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s programme in international development, gender studies, public administration, social sciences, or a related field.
- Experience related to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with knowledge management, research, data collection, and communications is an asset.
- Basic design skills (e.g., Canva, MailChimp or similar) for creating newsletters and communication materials.
- Experience organizing online webinars or virtual events.
- Familiarity with digital platforms, AI tools and data visualization tools is desirable.
