About Malala Fund
Malala Fund envisions a world where all girls can learn and choose their own futures. Registered as a public charity in the US, UK, Nigeria, and Pakistan, we work to secure girls’ right to 12 years of education, enabling them to thrive in all areas of their lives. To create sustainable change for as many girls as possible, we use grantmaking and advocacy to strengthen girls’ right to secondary education and unlock the resources necessary for all girls to enjoy this right. We support and amplify a movement of young education advocates who, like Malala, speak truth to power and push for systemic change around the world.
Objectives
The research partner will deliver a report that:
1. Provides a national snapshot of the male engagement landscape with relevance to girls’ education, policy change, gender norms and with deeper analysis of North East and North west Nigeria.
2. Contextualises the recommendations with analysis of ecosystem capacity, resource flows, and innovation across the male engagement space and specifically where it intersects with Girls’ Education — and where gaps constrain progress.
3. Surfaces credible models, vignettes, lessons learnt, principles of effective practice and recommendations for practitioners and Allies working in Girls’ Education (e.g., fatherhood programmes, faith-based mobilisation, teacher pathways, media storytelling).
4. Identifies risks, pitfalls, and safeguards to support credible, feminist-aligned male engagement.
5. Illuminates how male engagement can meaningfully support the enabling environment for policy change and implementation linked to Malala Fund’s priority areas.
6. Produces actionable recommendations for Malala Fund, Girls’ Education CSOs and male allies with additional consideration for how these findings could be used by policymakers and donors.
7. Through conducting the research, supports community-building through facilitated validation and learning sessions with practitioners, Education Champions Network (ECN), and allies.
Required Expertise Malala Fund seeks a Nigeria-based research individual, organisation or consortium with:
● Proven experience in gender, social norms, or engaging men and boys.
● Understanding of girls’ rights in Nigeria, specifically around barriers to accessing and completing 12 years of education.
● Strong familiarity with Nigeria’s policy landscape and education policy.
● Experience conducting multi-method research (KIIs, validation sessions, survey design) and ability to facilitate participatory sensemaking.
● Expertise in feminist-aligned practice and safeguarding approaches.
● Ability to synthesise complex insights into concise, accessible written products.
● Experience producing high-quality, policy-relevant reports for donors, government, or civil society.
● Ability to collaborate closely with MenEngage Nigeria.
