BOMA is a non-profit organization founded in 2006, with a vision to end extreme poverty in Africa’s drylands. We are driven by our mission to provide the people and governments of Africa Drylands with adapted economic inclusion programs that significantly reduce extreme poverty rates and enhance their ability to withstand multiple crises. This is achieved through the BOMA context-adaptive Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) graduation model designed to economically empower women, youth and refugees by equipping them with the skills, resources and linkages necessary to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
JOB SUMMARY
BOMA is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Youth, Gender Equality, Social Inclusion (GESI) and Safeguarding Officer in the CASHA program. The officer will provide strategic technical leadership, oversight, and operational support to ensure that gender equality, youth empowerment, and safeguarding are systematically integrated across all programmatic interventions.
The role will lead the design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of a GESI and Safeguarding Action Plan that addresses structural barriers, discriminatory social norms, and protection risks affecting vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on young women and marginalized groups in the ASALs.
The officer will ensure the application of gender-transformative and socially inclusive approaches in project design, delivery, and institutional development. This includes strengthening community-led safeguarding mechanisms, promoting meaningful youth participation, and advancing inclusive livelihood opportunities
The officer will work closely with the Project Lead, technical team and consortium partner representatives to ensure that gender, youth equity and social inclusion aspects are incorporated and well-developed in all technical tools and activities, including in communications activities that promote social behavior change. S/he will work closely with the Communication Manager, R&L manager and M&E team to document aspects of gender and youth inclusion as part of a learning agenda and relevant project indicators.
The position requires demonstrated expertise in youth and gender programming, safeguarding standards, and social inclusion frameworks, coupled with practical experience in the ASAL context.
QUALIFICATIONS
5.1. Bachelor’s Degree in in social work and social administration, social sciences preferably development studies, gender studies or any other relevant discipline. Those who hold master’s degree will have an added advantage.
5.2. 5+ years’ experience in an NGO at field level in Gender, Social Inclusion and Safeguarding.
5.3. Practical experience in implementing Gender, Social Inclusion and Safeguarding projects in ASAL regions , especially in fragile ecosystem.
5.4. Experience in youth skilling and business start -up
5.5. Prior experience working in the integration of gender and youth considerations in livestock and agri-related value chains, or skilling for employment is projects preferred.
5.6. Ability to develop effective working relationships with donors, government, local organizations, youth groups, Refugees, organizations working with persons with disabilities and other program partners and stakeholders.
5.7. Proven experience leading gender and social inclusion in the entire project cycle phases.
5.8. Strong leadership skills, experience in partnership development and deep understanding and experience in consortia management.
