Background and Purpose
The WomenX Collective has recently been launched by UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. It is designed to address critical health gaps for women and girls by identifying investment cases that can bring evidence-based solutions to work for women and girls in low- and middle-income countries. By overcoming barriers such as limited adoption, restricted access, and low investment in women’s health, the WomenX Collective promotes the implementation of adaptable, locally relevant, and sustainable interventions. To support the WomenX Collective investment cases, UNFPA will establish ad-hoc, case-specific Expert Committees. These Expert Committees, composed of global and local external experts, will provide specialized guidance at key phases of the program—adapt, assess, and scale—to ensure effective and impactful execution.
Nature of the Expert Committee
The WomenX Collective Expert Committee is a time-bound, case-specific ad-hoc advisory body with members selected by UNFPA for their specialized knowledge and expertise.
Scope of Advisory Input
The Expert Committee will provide advisory input on agreed tasks related to the WomenX Collective, including:
- Identifying relevant solutions for selected challenges in the area of maternal and reproductive health.
- Contextualizing solutions to align with local needs and capacities.
- Assessing the potential for the impact and scalability of the solutions.
- Supporting the development of scale-readiness dossiers.
- Advising on financing strategies to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.
Participation
Participation in the Expert Committee is voluntary, and all contributions by external experts are provided at no cost to UNFPA.
Who Can Express Interest
The Expert Committee will be a multidisciplinary team, with members who have a range of technical knowledge, skills, and experience in relevant areas. In the selection of the Expert Committee members, UNFPA will give consideration to attaining an adequate distribution of diverse technical expertise from across various geographies and backgrounds. UNFPA will welcome experts from the following, but not limited to, subject areas:
- Maternal health and reproductive health, including reproductive health cancers.
- Innovative solutions in women’s health diagnostics, treatment, and prevention, including data management and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Supply Chain, quality, and logistics management systems focusing on sexual and reproductive health commodities.
- Digital solutions focusing on maternal health and reproductive cancers.
Proposed Composition
UNFPA is inviting experts from various technical areas to apply to form a pool of WomenX Collective external experts, who will be engaged as experts on case-specific thematic areas. It is envisioned that each thematic group will consist of up to 10 members and the meetings will be held virtually based on the needs. The Expert Committee will be chaired by the UNFPA Chief of Innovation and Transformation Branch and supported by the WomenX Collective team as a Secretariat
