CARE Canada is looking for a Gender-based Violence in Emergencies Specialist
ABOUT THE ROLE / WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS
CARE Canada’s Global Programs Team is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s programs in both development and humanitarian assistance focusing on the injustice of poverty and gender inequality. The Strategic Plan (2021-2027) reaffirms our gender-equality focus and our dual-mandate status. Our ultimate impact goal is to support women’s leadership for a gender-just future grounded in strong programs supporting safety/protection, health and dignified livelihoods across humanitarian, nexus and development settings. The Global Programs unit is responsible for the overall management of CARE Canada’s global programming circa $50m annual development and humanitarian programming portfolio.
The Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE) Specialist will support CARE Canada’s efforts to deliver high-quality, inclusive programming in emergency and nexus settings. They will provide technical expertise to integrate GBViE mitigation, prevention, and response into programs, ensuring alignment with CARE’s gender equality and do-no-harm standards. The Specialist will support project teams with GBV analyses, program design, and the development of monitoring tools to assess program impacts.
Through capacity-building workshops and technical assistance, the Specialist will strengthen staff capabilities and foster a culture of learning around GBV in emergency in nexus settings. Representing CARE Canada in global networks, they will share insights and tools to enhance GBViE programming and advance gender equality in emergencies and nexus settings. When needed, they will also contribute to business development by integrating GBViE components into new project proposals.
WHAT YOU OFFER / ABOUT YOU
- Three or more years of professional proven experience designing and delivering GBV prevention and response programming in at least one complex humanitarian emergency setting.
- Experience designing or delivering projects or services to mitigate, prevent or respond to Gender Based Violence in Canada or abroad or related types of services.
- Experience in program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, including application of SPHERE standards and integration of gender equality approaches; understanding of the Core Humanitarian Standard Familiarity with participatory assessment methods, with a focus on gender equality and ability to identify specific needs of men, women, boys and girls
- Committed to gender transformative and feminist/participatory approaches
- Fluency in French and English including written and spoken
- Excellent cross cultural communication skills
- This position requires minimum a bachelor’s degree and is open to anyone who meets the qualifications and has the desired competencies. A combination of education and lived experience is welcome.
- Specialist Training in GBV is required.
