Essential Job Functions

Policy Research & Analysis
  • Conducts policy research and analysis.
  • Drafts testimony, talking points, research memos, and letters on proposed legislation and policy positions.
  • Tracks legislation relevant to Pregnancy Justice’s mission and engages in outreach to and collaboration with state-based partners.
  • Identifies opportunities for Pregnancy Justice to engage in advocacy at federal, state, and local levels to further our priorities.
  • Acts in compliance with federal and state lobbying rules.
  • Represents Pregnancy Justice on coalitions and in meetings and events.

Program Support
  • Drafts and edits internal and externally facing documents, including reports, factsheets, testimony, and other materials.
  • Builds coalitions and relationships with community-based organizations and local activists and organizers; identifies potential stakeholders and partners.
  • Manages Pregnancy Justice’s internal impact tracker to measure organization’s work and impact throughout the year.

Education & Outreach
  • Provides support for Pregnancy Justice’s external special projects including public education events, conference planning, speaking appearances, including but not limited to outreach and registration, creation of promotional materials, arranging travel and accommodations for speakers and compiling handouts for attendees.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of webinars, actions, and other events. Represents Pregnancy Justice at conferences and educational and organizing events.
  • Tracks all outreach and educational activities performed by Pregnancy Justice staff.
  • Identifies opportunities to attend conferences and relevant events, and/or speak at conferences, on panels, and at events; where appropriate, submits proposals for panels and talks.

Leadership Responsibilities
  • Consistently demonstrates strong leadership by setting a positive example in their actions and decisions, inspiring colleagues to do the same.
  • May provide direct supervision to Policy Assistants and/or interns and oversee their day-to-day work and professional skill development and opportunities.
  • Monitors quality of work and time management of any supervisees and interns to ensure deliverables for research projects are timely met.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years' experience in legislative advocacy, community organizing, and/or policy advocacy is required.
  • Master's degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skilled in developing project plans and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and direction to supervisees and interns, when applicable.
  • Exceptional organizational and written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening, tailoring language, tone, style, and format to reach the audience.
  • Knowledge of (or aptitude for learning) various legal research sources, including electronic, and the ability to conduct research and analyze information on a wide range of legal and policy issues.
