Key Responsibilities:
Development Strategy:
● Working closely with the ED and Board’s Development Committee to design and implement strategic fundraising plans and initiatives to increase and diversify Harpswell’s revenue streams in alignment with its overarching strategic priorities.
● Support and attend the Board’s Development Committee.
Program Management:
● Develop and execute annual giving programs and campaigns to build and sustain our donor pipeline including attracting new supporters.
● Plan and deliver fundraising appeals, including direct mail, email and digital campaigns.
● Design and execute event-based fundraising initiatives, where applicable.
● Develop and execute stewardship plans to retain and strengthen existing donors.
● Collaborate closely with our Communications Officer to:
○ Develop and distribute donor-centric newsletters that showcase the foundation’s impact and build donor loyalty.
○ Create and schedule compelling social media campaigns to support fundraising efforts, including appeals, donor stories, and event promotions.
○ Maintain and regularly update the website with fundraising materials, impact stories, and key messaging.
Prospect Research, Cultivation and Collaborative Initiatives:
● Conduct prospect research to identify potential major and transformational donors, trusts, foundations, corporate sponsorship and grant opportunities.
● Prepare briefing documents and coordinate meetings with major donors,
trusts, corporates and foundations for the ED.
● Identify opportunities to expand the Harpswell’s donor and partner networks.
● Work closely with the ED and the team to develop and refine Harpwell’s “case for support,” ensuring it is compelling and current.
● Support the ED in preparing proposals, grant applications and donor reports. Systems and Operational Support:
● Track and report on fundraising metrics, campaign performance and donor engagement to inform strategy.
Desired Skills and Experience:
● Fundraising and Communications Knowledge: Familiarity with annual giving, donor stewardship, newsletters and digital campaigns.
● Creative and Strategic Thinking Skills: Ability to develop engaging content for newsletters and social media aligned with Harpswell’s mission and goals.
● Technology Proficiency: Experience with donor management systems (CRM) such as Bloomerang, social media platforms and website tools. Proficiency with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp) and social media schedulers
● Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and reports efficiently and meet deadlines and budgets.
● Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills to connect effectively with diverse audiences especially in the US, Australia and SE Asia.
● Self-Motivation: Ability to work independently and proactively with our team that works across multiple geographies and time zones.
● Team Player: Collaborative mindset to work closely with the ED, Harpswell Board, team and external stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience:
● Minimum of 4 years’ experience in non-profit development, fundraising or related field with demonstrated success in fundraising, donor relationship and philanthropy.
● Relevant tertiary qualifications.
● Association or membership with relevant industry bodies.
