Gender equality and Social inclusion (GESI)
KIT’s Gender Equality Team is comprised of 14 international gender specialists who focus on feminist leadership, equal rights and empowerment. We do feminist analysis, gender integration, capacity development and applied research, and provide policy and organisational advice. We work on both stand-alone gender equality initiatives as well as projects and programs that integrate gender in: agrifood-, land- and aquatic systems and the environment; global value chains; and global health. Together with partners and clients KIT Gender facilitates and documents critical reflection and gender knowledge development, supports the development of policies and strategies and the monitoring and evaluation of programmes that focus on gender equality and rights outcomes.
As a Gender Advisor, you will:
- Provide advice to support development organizations and governments integrating and promoting gender equality in projects, policy and practice related to agrifood-, land- and aquatic- systems and the environment.
- Develop and implement gender capacity building programs (including training, coaching, action learning and other forms of knowledge sharing).
- Support and facilitate institutional change, including the design and supervision of gender audits and institutional assessments; the development of gender strategies and policies, and support for implementation.
- Design and implement Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) related to institutional change, gender-transformative change and/or gender integration strategies.
- Design, implement and disseminate applied qualitative and/or quantitative research.
- Liaise with donors and partners to mobilize resources and acquire projects to realize the knowledge ambitions of the gender team.
- Design and write project proposals for open calls.
- Contribute to gender team learning and knowledge development.
- Contribute to strategic positioning of KIT Institute’s gender work, nationally and internationally.
- Collaborate with gender team colleagues in further expanding work in the area of gender, agriculture and the environment.
- Contribute to knowledge management through online platforms, and publications.
You have:
- Academic qualification (minimum of Masters degree) in social sciences, with a strong and focused specialization in gender and development.
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in gender and international development in applied research positions, capacity strengthening programmes and/or advisory work.
- Proven expertise on the gender dimensions of agrifood, land-, aquatic systems and the environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work on gender integration with agricultural and/or environmental specialists.
- Sharp analytical skills and the ability to connect gender knowledge generated in agricultural and environmental projects, more broadly.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating Gender Transformative Approaches and intersectionality.
- Demonstrated experience with social science research methods, including diverse research methodologies (such as story-telling or using art).
- Ability to work independently in performing tasks in a project team.
- Excellent listening and problem-solving skills and the capacity to work within a diverse multicultural team and maintain good working relations with global partners.
- Experience writing analytical research reports and producing knowledge products.
- A PhD is an advantage.
- Ability to travel regularly to LMICs is required.
- Fluency in English is required.
